General Safety

  • Read all instructions first. Read the complete installation guide and these safety instructions before beginning any work. Improper installation can cause leaks, property damage, or personal injury.
  • Shut off water supply. Always turn off the main water supply before installing, removing, or servicing any Fractal Water product. Relieve pressure by opening a downstream faucet before disconnecting any plumbing.
  • Use a qualified installer if unsure. If you are not confident in your plumbing skills, hire a licensed plumber. Fractal Water is not responsible for damage or injury resulting from improper installation.
  • Follow local plumbing codes. All installations must comply with local building and plumbing codes. Obtain any required permits before beginning work.
  • Wear appropriate PPE. Wear safety glasses and gloves during installation. Metal pipe ends and fittings can be sharp.
  • Do not modify the product. Do not drill, cut, weld, or alter any Fractal Water product in any way. Modifications void the warranty and may create unsafe conditions.
  • Intended use only. Fractal Water products are designed for treating potable water and irrigation water. Do not use with chemicals, solvents, oils, or fluids other than water.

Magnet Safety

The Ultra Imploder and Super Imploder contain powerful neodymium magnets within their magnetic housings. While the magnets are fully enclosed and shielded with thick carbon steel to concentrate flux density inside the pipe, the following precautions should be observed:

  • Pacemakers and medical implants. If you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump, or other electronic medical implant, consult your physician before handling the Ultra Imploder or Super Imploder. While the magnetic field is shielded and contained within the housing, exercise caution during installation when in close proximity to the unit.
  • Keep magnetic storage media away. During installation and handling, keep credit cards, hard drives, USB drives, magnetic ID badges, and other magnetically sensitive items at least 12 inches from the magnetic housing.
  • Electronic devices. The carbon steel shielding is designed to contain the magnetic field within the pipe. Once installed, the external magnetic field is minimal and should not affect nearby electronics. However, during handling before installation, avoid placing the unit directly against sensitive electronic equipment.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble. Never attempt to remove magnets from the housing. The magnets are extremely powerful and can cause serious pinch injuries if they snap together unexpectedly. Disassembly voids the warranty.
  • Keep away from children. The magnetic housing is heavy and contains powerful magnets. Store uninstalled units out of reach of children.

Product-Specific Safety

Ultra Imploder

The Ultra Imploder is constructed from 316 stainless steel with a Blue Zylan-coated magnetic housing. It weighs approximately 34 lbs and is designed for permanent installation on residential or commercial water lines.

  • Weight and mounting. The Ultra Imploder weighs 34 lbs. Always mount it using the provided strut channel and mounting hardware. Do not allow the unit to hang unsupported from plumbing connections, as this can stress fittings and cause leaks.
  • Two-person installation recommended. Due to its weight, have a second person assist when lifting and positioning the Ultra Imploder during installation.
  • Pressure rating. The Ultra Imploder is tested and rated for residential and commercial water pressure. Do not install on lines exceeding 80 PSI without a pressure-reducing valve. If your water pressure exceeds 80 PSI, install a pressure regulator upstream of the unit.
  • Freeze protection. If installed in an unheated area, protect the Ultra Imploder from freezing. Water expanding inside a frozen unit can crack fittings and damage the vortex nozzle. Drain the unit if the installation area may drop below 32°F (0°C).
  • Magnetic shielding. The magnets are fully self-contained and shielded with thick carbon steel. The shielding concentrates the magnetic flux within the pipe and minimizes external field strength. The unit will not interfere with nearby appliances, wiring, or electronics once installed.

Super Imploder

The Super Imploder features a Technyl (glass-reinforced polymer) vortex nozzle and a carbon steel magnetic array housing (powder-coated exterior, Zylan-lined interior). It is designed for flexible use in agricultural, greenhouse, hydroponic, and garden applications.

  • Support the unit. The Super Imploder does not include mounting hardware. Always support it with pipe hangers, straps, or a shelf. Never allow the full weight of the unit to rest on plumbing connections alone.
  • Outdoor installations. If installed outdoors, protect the unit from direct exposure to extreme weather. While the Technyl construction is durable and chemical-resistant, prolonged UV exposure can degrade plumbing fittings and connections over time.
  • Recirculation systems. When used in a recirculation loop with a pump, ensure the pump is rated for continuous duty if running continuously. Use a GFCI-protected outlet for the pump, especially in wet environments such as greenhouses.
  • Agricultural chemical compatibility. The Super Imploder is designed for water only. Do not run fertilizer concentrates, pesticides, or other chemicals directly through the unit. In fertigation setups, install the Super Imploder upstream of the chemical injector.
  • Freeze protection. Drain the unit before winter storage or if installed in an area subject to freezing temperatures. Frozen water can damage the vortex nozzle and crack fittings.

Vortex Nozzle

The Vortex Nozzle is a standalone Technyl (glass-reinforced polymer) vortex device without the magnetic array. It is the most compact product in the Fractal Water line.

  • No magnet hazards. The Vortex Nozzle does not contain magnets. Magnet safety precautions do not apply to this product.
  • Thread connections. Use PTFE tape or pipe dope on all threaded connections. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench to snug the connection. Over-tightening can crack the fitting or strip threads.
  • Flow direction. Install with the correct flow direction as marked on the unit. Reverse installation will not damage the nozzle but will reduce its effectiveness.
  • Freeze protection. Like all water treatment devices, drain the Vortex Nozzle if the installation area may reach freezing temperatures.

Installation Safety

  • Inspect before installing. Before installation, inspect the unit for any shipping damage. Check for dents, cracks, or loose fittings. Do not install a damaged unit — contact us for a replacement.
  • Secure all connections. Tighten all plumbing connections firmly but do not over-tighten. Over-tightening threaded fittings can crack brass or polymer components. A quarter turn past hand-tight with a wrench is typically sufficient.
  • Test for leaks. After installation, slowly open the water supply and inspect every connection for leaks before leaving the area. Check again after 24 hours. Even small drips can cause significant water damage over time.
  • Bypass valve recommended. Install shut-off valves on both sides of the unit so it can be isolated for maintenance without shutting off water to the entire property.
  • Electrical clearance. Maintain at least 6 inches of clearance between the magnetic housing and any electrical wiring, junction boxes, or electrical panels during installation.
  • Adequate support. All units must be properly supported. Do not rely on plumbing connections alone to bear the weight of the device. Unsupported weight can cause joint failure, leaks, and water damage.

Maintenance Safety

  • No routine maintenance required. Fractal Water products have no moving parts, filters, or consumables that require regular replacement. The vortex nozzle and magnetic array are maintenance-free under normal operating conditions.
  • Periodic inspection. Visually inspect plumbing connections every 6 months for signs of leaks, corrosion, or mineral buildup. Tighten connections if needed.
  • Cleaning. If mineral scale builds up on external surfaces, clean with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals on the housing or fittings.
  • Shut off water before servicing. Always shut off water supply and relieve pressure before performing any maintenance, tightening connections, or repositioning the unit.
  • Magnet testing. If you suspect magnetic strength has diminished (covered under the 10-year warranty), contact us for testing instructions. Do not attempt to disassemble the magnetic housing.

Water Safety

  • Not a water purifier. Fractal Water products are vortex magnetic water treatment systems. They structure and energize water but do not filter, disinfect, or remove contaminants. If your water supply requires filtration or disinfection, use appropriate water treatment equipment in addition to your Fractal Water system.
  • Potable water supply. For residential installations, ensure your water source meets local potable water standards before installing a Fractal Water product.
  • Food-grade materials. The Ultra Imploder uses 316 stainless steel wetted surfaces, which is food-grade and corrosion-resistant. The Super Imploder and Vortex Nozzle use Technyl, a food-safe glass-reinforced polymer. No coatings, chemicals, or materials are added to the water flow path.
